So you've been running for a while now and have a race coming up. As a consequence you've upped your mileage.
But then it starts. That pain, that dull ache in the front of your lower leg.
You ask around on facebook…."Does anyone have any idea what's going on?"
It's Shin Splints they tell you. And then follow with 101 different ways to get rid of it from making sure you warm up properly, to resting. They tell you to get new trainers or to change where you run. You may even try adjusting your running style or technique.
But if none of this is making any difference then maybe yours is due to your own body mechanics.
Now Shin Splints is a general term that is often used to describe exercise-induced pain felt in the front of the lower leg but it doesn't tell you WHAT is causing it.
A recent client of mine came in with the same issue. What we found was that her Pelvis was dysfunctional (in that it wasn't working the way it should be). This meant that she had a leg length issue. As a consequence her longer leg was trying to compensate which resulted in 'Shin Splints'.
Correcting her pelvis corrected the 'Shin Splints' without even touching her legs.
Please don't let something like this stop you from doing what you love!
