This is what I see when I talk about a Leg Length Discrepancy. It's not difficult to realise just how many issues that this can cause. Try it for yourself.
Imagine you have one leg shorter than the other. What do you see happens to your body? And how do you think this relates to pain within the body? It honestly doesn't take a genius to work out that having a Leg Length Discrepancy is not a good thing.
Some of the issues I have come across that having a Leg Length Issue can cause include (but are not limited to)...
And although years ago the solution would have been to simply stick a wedge under the shorter leg, today we are able to discern WHY there is a Leg length discrepancy in the first place.
Is it because one leg is actually structurally shorter than the other? Meaning that the bones of one leg are actually longer than the other.
Or is it because there is a dysfunction within the pelvis? Meaning that some muscles are doing their job but others are not, which is then causing compensations.
Or maybe it's because the Quadratus Lumborum (a muscle that attaches to the spine, ribs and pelvis) is in spasm which is causing a shortness on one side?
All these things can cause a Leg Length Discrepancy.
The key is to figure out the cause. Because after all, it's important that we treat the cause of the issue and not just the symptom (in this case...a shorter leg).
So if you are having problems that are not being resolved...get your leg length checked. Be it a Biomechanics coach, Physio, Osteopath, or anyone else that looks at these things.
ASK them to check it. What have you got to lose?
