Honestly? It is different for everyone. Everyone starts at different points and there are so many things that are factored in. The main one is how well you are completing the homework that I set.
But what I have come to find is that around 4-6 sessions is the norm for most of the clients that I see. I aim to get rid of you in as short a space of time as possible. Why? Isn't that bad for business? Nope. Because the sooner you are moving freely, the sooner you will tell your friends.
I remember a guy once phoned me up and said that he was home for a few months (he worked away for a couple of months at a time) and asked if I could fit him in 2-3 times a WEEK for a sports massage. When I asked him why so often he said that was how many times his regular sports massage therapist had recommended he have in order to keep his back pain free.
WTF? 2-3 times a week, every single week. It made me feel sick that this therapist was obviously taking advantage of this guy's pain.
Now don't get me wrong, massage is fantastic and so beneficial (So go and book in for one now!). But I would say that if you are having to rely on someone else to look after your body then something is wrong.
That's the beauty of Biomechanics. You learn how to maintain your body. You rely on YOU, no one else.
So what happened to the guy?
I told him that I would prefer to give him a Biomechanics Assessment first. I explained how I believed that we could find a way for him to look after his own back. He said he didn’t want that. He just wanted someone to do it for him and that 2-3 massages a week is what he was after. I said I wasn’t willing to take his money for a treatment that I knew was just masking the pain and not finding the cause of the problem. I never heard from him again.
