Although I often get asked "How can I fix this?" it's not often I hear "What am I doing everyday to create this?
We don't just wake up with back pain. Although it quite often appears that way.
We don't suddenly get knee pain when running. Most often that not it is gradual and we have simply ignored the earlier signs.
We don't just hurt our shoulder throwing the ball. It's more likely that our own body does not have the capacity to do the job that you are asking of it (think biomechanics).
We need to start asking ourselves…what are the habits that are causing the pain?
After all, pain is not the problem.
So once again we need to STOP CHASING PAIN!
Pain is a signal, a sign that something needs looking into a little more. It's telling us that we need to pay attention.
Whether that be not moving enough, not having the capacity to do what we are asking our body to do, or doing too much too soon and not developing our tissues tolerance, pain is an alarm for us to listen!
PAIN IS A REQUEST FOR CHANGE.
That could be lifestyle, habits, our biomechanics. Anything. It's our job to figure out what our body needs.
Let's stop focusing on trying to turn off the fire alarm and instead figure out what is actually causing the fire in the first place!
* As always….this does not apply to everyone. Sometimes pain is our brain catastrophising things. But that's for another day!
